I like the idea of sociolocally.net - how can I contribute?
Well, the best thing you can do is actually to contribute to the site by participating actively in discussions and by making the sociopedia explanations as sociologically valuable as possible.
Oh, and then there is one thing more. Since one of the ambitions behind Sociologically.net is to establish an international sociological community, you can make sure that everyone you know who has anything to do with sociology knows about this site.
You can do this by word of mouth (people studying marketing claim that this is should be effective) and you can use the "share" option in the top menu.
Why is this site called sociologically.net ?
Sociologically is an adverbial form of sociology and means "with regard to sociology" - and that is what this site is all about isn't it? Further, there is a subtle double meaning in the title, which should not be too hard to figure out if you think about it for a little while :)
I have created a user, but I can't login
The first thing you need to make sure is that you have actually clicked on the link in the mail which was sent to you immediately after you created your user. The subject of the email is "Welcome to Sociologically.net - please activate your profile" and it has a very long link in it, please make sure that you include the whole link.
If you have a very strict spam filter, it might have caught it, so have a look to see, if your activation mail ended up as spam.
If none of this helps, it might be because you mistyped your username or password. Please note that the loginsystem is casesensitive, which means that 'Myusername' is not the same as 'myusername' - the same goes for password.
If nothing helps, please contact and we will find a solution.
Will my email address appear on my profile page?
Not if you choose "my email adress should not be visible on my profile page" under the menu item "your settings" :)
What is a Sociologically.net ambassador and how do I become one?
As you might have seen, some users have a star icon in the user list. This means that the user is a national Sociologically.net ambassador for his or her country.
Being a national Sociologically.net ambassador basically means that you do the best you can to make sure that sociologists and sociology students in your country get to know that Sociologically.net exists and encourage your sociological network to participate in the site. This way, it becomes easier for Sociologically.net to reach its rightfull audience.
To become an ambassador for Sociologically.net it's an advantage for you to have access to the sociological milieu in you country, since it's these people's attention you need to attract. Being an ambassador for Sociologically.net is an unpaid, voluntary, but very important and much appreciated position.
If you want to be a Sociologically.net ambassador in your country, please don't hesitate to contact.
How is Sociologically.net funded?
Though there is a bit of advertisement on the pages, Sociologically.net isn't really funded in any way. The site is developed from scratch and entirely so by Lars who develops the site in his spare time and also pays the expenses of running the website.
If you want to support the site and its further development, please don't hesitate to make a donation by clicking on the red "$ donate" button in the right side of the page..
